New venue in Omaha
Updated
July 23, 2007
INTIMATE MUSIC VENUE INVITES ACOUSTIC ARTISTS, FOLK GROUPS.
The blight of appropriate venues for traditional musicians has plagued
Omaha until now, and the vaccine comes in the form of The Benson Grind.
Located in the heart of Historic Benson, this stylish coffeeshop, cafe and
art gallery has embraced the local traditional music scene and is currently
seeking talent to fill available dates.
"The Grind is not trying to compete with the typical music venues," says
proprietor Allan Zeeck, "we're looking for Old-Time, Folk, Bluegrass and
related genres who need a cozier, more intimate place to play. It's perfect
for the traditional musician and the acoustics in here are incredible. We'd
love to have any music clubs meet here as well."
Poetry readings and spoken word nights are also being scheduled.
All interested parties are encouraged to contact Tob Wood via email
bensongrind@gmail.com for further details.

Open Mic at Mick's
Added
July 19, 2005
A year and a half ago, Michael Campbell,
a well-known personality in the Omaha music scene, opened a live music venue
in the Benson area. it's known as "Mick's music and Bar"
www.micksomaha.com.
Recently Michael decided to open the venue
seven days a week, and has enlisted Kevin Killion truly as bartender/host
for Sunday and Monday night festivities. On sunday nights, we do an open mic
with a free-for-all format, whatever style of music you want to play, is
okay by us.
On Monday nights, Kevin is striving for
something more rootsy, blue-grassy, traditional and old-timey. So all you
pickers, players, singers and such, come on out!! We'll start the music
around 8 PM and stop when no one wants to play any more. Please pass this
along to all your musician friends, and to all your friends who enjoy live
music by local musicians!
